Service Agreement
The Red Pen Studio @ Southland Storyworks
This Service Agreement ("Agreement") is entered into by and between the Client ("Client") and The Red Pen Studio, a division of Southland Storyworks ("Editor"), for the provision of editorial services as detailed below. By confirming this agreement via email or payment, both parties acknowledge and accept the terms outlined herein.
1. Scope of Work
The Editor agrees to provide professional copyediting, line editing, developmental editing, and/or consultation services, as selected by the Client and defined in the associated project proposal or quote.
2. Service Tiers and Rates
Precision Pass (Line & Clarity Edit): $0.03/word
Red Pen Treatment (Deep Edit): $0.04/word
Syndicate Special (Full Developmental Edit): $0.05–0.06/word (custom quote provided)
The total project fee will be based on the finalized word count and agreed service tier.
3. Timeline and Delivery
The Editor will provide an estimated delivery timeline upon project initiation. Projects will be completed within the agreed time frame unless otherwise modified in writing. Rush fees may apply for expedited services.
4. Payment Terms
A 50% deposit is required upon agreement to secure the project timeline. The remaining 50% is due upon delivery of final files. For smaller projects (under $500), full payment may be required upfront. Payment is accepted via Venmo, PayPal, or direct bank transfer.
5. Revisions
Each editing tier includes one round of revisions (light touch-up). Additional rounds or substantial rewrites will be quoted separately.
6. Confidentiality
The Editor agrees to maintain strict confidentiality of all materials and communications related to the Client's work. No part of the content will be shared or disclosed to third parties without express written consent.
7. Copyright and Credit
The Client retains all rights to their original work. If mutually agreed, the Editor may be credited for editing (e.g., "Edited by The Red Pen Studio"), but this is not required.
8. Cancellation and Refunds
If the Client cancels the project after work has begun, they are responsible for paying for the portion completed. Deposits are non-refundable unless cancellation occurs before any editorial work begins.
9. Limitation of Liability
The Editor provides suggestions to improve quality and clarity but does not guarantee publication, academic approval, or acceptance. The Editor shall not be liable for any damages resulting from use or misuse of the edited material.
10. Dispute Resolution
Any disputes arising from this Agreement will first be attempted to be resolved through good-faith negotiation. If resolution is not achieved, both parties agree to mediation in the state of South Carolina.
Acceptance
By submitting a payment or confirming project terms via email, the Client acknowledges and agrees to the terms and conditions outlined in this Agreement.
